Learn the simple steps to making a classic digest-size zine, then take publishing into your own hands! The DIY ethic is the cornerstone of this workshop. Teen Zine Extravaganza is all about empowering teens to take the upper hand as artists, writers, and self-publishers and dive into creation head (and heart) first! Students will work individually and on teams to complete two beautiful one-of-a-kind zines by the end of the workshop. Why wait for the publishers to create the next big thing when you can create it yourself?
This class includes eight, 2-hour lessons on Thursdays from 3-5. Classes will be held in the Upstairs Classroom at the Chehalem Cultural Arts Center. PLEASE NOTE: No class on July 4th!

Poetry is an ancient art form whose roots began in music and the oral cultures of past ages. Today, with modern technology and the internet, there is the potential for vast audiences and beautiful, lasting recordings of our work. In this three day workshop, lovers of poetry will practice their own oral instruments—their voices—to record poems of their own make or by others they admire. For crisp, rich sound, we will utilize the Chehalem Cultural Center's sound-recording studio. Interested members will also have the option of creating a podcast based around a self-curated collection of poems. Each person will leave with an audio CD of his or her own work—an audio treasure to share with friends, family, and the world!
Materials Fee: $10 (Bring to first class).
