Beginning Portraiture (ages 17+)

An introduction to drawing and painting realistic portraits both from life and photographs.
Using traditional and contemporary studio methods, students will focus on capturing the ever elusive likeness, which is the essence of portraiture. A strong emphasis will be placed on light and shadow,  anatomy and structure of the head, and basics of composition. We will be working mainly with pencil and charcoal, however students are welcome to use any media.
Students will be encouraged to work from a clothed portrait model weekly however, they may bring they're own photos to work from.
A great course for both beginners and experienced students, which can be applied to a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel and colored pencil. This class can also be readily applied to computer based graphic novel and comics work.
