Design Rocks! | Rock & Roll Design Camp ages 13 – 18

Design Rocks  | August 12th – 16th

Mon - Thurs, 11am - 3pm
Friday, 11am - 4pm

Concert: Friday at 6pm*

This exciting collaboration between Youth Music Project and the Chehalem Cultural Center offers teens the opportunity to learn about design by creating content for rock-band clientele. This week long camp will be held at the Chehalem Cultural Center in Newberg, but will include brainstorming and follow-up consultations with actual rock bands at the Youth Music Project’s Rock Band Experience camps. CCC design students will work with individual YMP bands to create unique album art, logos and posters to be showcased at the concert. Students will gain real experience working with YMP groups as their own clients, and will learn from practicing designers and arts educators.

This camp will:

  • Analyze the elements and principles of design within modern album art & media

  • Explore the history and development of rock & roll design

  • Teach students to complete client-based projects and work towards a deadline

  • Enable students to grow their portfolios by producing unique album art, logos, and posters for their assigned rock band

  • Apply team-oriented work practices through student collaborations and partnerships

  • Deliver information about careers in the design industry

*Student transportation to the YMP campus will be provided on Tuesday and Thursday. The Friday concert includes performances from all of the participants of the rock bands and Youth Music Project in West Linn, OR and a showcase of the Design Team's final projects. We'll have a pizza party for all students from 5-6pm before the show begins at 6pm. Families of enrolled students are encouraged to attend the concert and will be responsible for driving students to YMP for the pizza party and concert on Friday.
