Yamhill County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

Monday, January 19, 2026 | 6pm

This year, the Yamhill County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will center around Dr. King’s “The Other America” speech, given at Stanford University in 1967. A presentation will be followed by small group discussion about themes, their relevance in 1967, and their relevance today.

The program will include a students protest march for justice led by Edwards Elementary students, words from the City of Newberg leadership, a performance by Ballet Folklorico, and  music from George Fox University choral students.

After the program, attendees will be invited to participate in a community art activity led by Marvin Eans, Assistant Professor of Art and Design at George Fox University, singing of Freedom Songs led by Dominique Rutling and participate in writing letters to state and national elected officials. Attendees will also have a chance to learn about and speak with local non-profits that are making a difference in our community.
